Several people who saw the dawn of 2010 did not, and will not make it to see the birthing of 2011. Just yesterday, one of my friends here in Atlanta passed away and I heard about it while driving back home.
God has been so good to us that we need to be mindful of the fact that we have another year to dedicate our lives more to him or rededicate it to Him if we have fallen away some.
On the occasion of New Year, we contact our friends and relatives to wish them a Happy New Year. Just like how we communicate with our friends over the phone, email, facebook and blog, God wants us to stay in touch as well. Talking to God merely with our minds, without the aid of technology is called prayer. It need not be reciting those long passages engraved in those thick books - just a simple and genuine thought, "My God" is sufficient.
God talks to us in various ways, and when He is talking to us, we will know it for sure; it is a totally different experience and you will know it right away (Oh yeah!). One of the simplest ways He talks is through the Biblical verses that are written down. By reading the Bible, we are listening to what God has to say. One we cross that level, there are other means the Almighty uses.
Several years ago I wanted to get closer to the most high, but never knew how. Life used to get into my way and I found myself slipping away. Staying in touch with God is a continuous process, as well as a dificult one. Sometimes I found out that in order to stay on God's side, I had to forsake few friends, few pleasures in life and endure hardships. If you truly want to stay with God, He sees your inner desire, and sends the Holy Spirit to strengthen you. I am a strong believer that when a believer fully surrenders his life over to Jesus, He will bless you with a joy and peace you haven't ever known.
My only New Year resolution is to strengthen relationship with my God and to communicate with Him. Over and over, I have noticed that, with the guidance of Holy Spirit, all the troubles of this life will just melt away.
The 9 fruits of Holy Spirit are listed in Galatians 5:22-23, namely:
(4) Longsuffering (patience)
Additionally, there are some supernatural gifts from the Holy Spirit as well:
(1) The Word of Knowledge
(2) The Word of Wisdom
(3) The Gift of Prophecy
(4) The Gift of Faith
(5) The Gifts of Healings
(6) The Working of Miracles
(7) The Discerning of Spirits
(8) Different Kinds of Tongues
(9) The Interpretation of Tongues
If we are able to experience the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit, what more can we ask for? Once again, Fellowship with the Holy Spirit is the most rewarding one, and those who experience it are truly fortunate.
Here are my birthday wishes to you, during this New Year: May this year ring in the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit and get you closer to the Most High.
